Meet Your Mentor: Mary Laymon

Mary Laymon brings 36 years of elite performance and teaching experience to every lesson. Her extensive career performing with The National Opera, San Francisco Opera, and The Minnesota Opera has given her the deep understanding of vocal technique and artistry that she now shares with her students.

This professional foundation allows Mary to guide singers of all levels—from beginners discovering their voice to professionals refining their craft—toward healthy technique, confident performance, and authentic musical expression.

As a longtime instructor at the MacPhail Center for Music and current Director of the Plymouth Chapel Singers, Mary has trained over 500 voices, helping each student unlock their unique sound through her supportive, outcome-focused approach.

She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and their two very musical dogs, Charlie and Teddy—and she's always excited to welcome new voices to her studio.
